At the recent Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce economic development committee meeting, State Representative Ray Pickett dismissed concerns about private vouchers as not being relevant to this region. This response was disappointing because our regional tax dollars are being unnecessarily diverted to private school vouchers, mostly outside of our area, instead of bolstering our essential public schools across the state.
Pickett serves on one of the House education committees, and we need him to push hard for full funding of public education at all levels in North Carolina and to put in the time to pass a budget rather than leaving state agencies unfunded indefinitely. If you agree, please call State Rep. Pickett and urge him to stand up for the people of his district by pushing for full funding for our public schools and the teacher/state employee promised raises.
Please note that at the recent meeting, Pickett assured the attendees that he would be glad to talk to anyone at any time, so we assume he will welcome our phone calls and emails.
